Thy bounteous hand our souls bath fed,
With food descended from above;
Still may we to thy courts be led,
To meditate upon thy love.

While we the sacred scriptures learn,
And keep thy laws, and seek thy care;
May we the path of peace discern,
And thus avoid the tempter's snare.

Though sin and Satan may devise,
And 'gainst our soul almost prevail;
Though darkness may becloud our eyes;
Thou canst remove the guilt, the veil.

O thou, who dost all gifts provide,
Bestow thy blessings on our youth;
When sin would lure, may we confide
In thee, O God of love and truth!

HYMN CXX.

JESUS, mighty God and Saviour,
Shining with benignant rays!
All thy saints shall sing for ever
Of thy wondrous love and grace:
We, poor children,

Now would join our feeble lays.

We are weak and need protection:
Our protector is the Lord:
Ignorant, we seek direction,

How to learn and read his word:
All these blessings

Jesus can to us afford.

To our wants he is no stranger,-
Once in feeble flesh as we;
Born and swaddled in a manger;
Poor as any babe could be;
He, to save us,

Groan'd and died upon the tree!
While our friends and patrons love us,
And their kind attention shew,
Daily seeking to improve us,
Clothe us and instruct us too;
In thine image,

May our souls be form'd anew!

HYMN CXXI.

Missionary.

ZION'S King shall reign victorious, All the earth shall own his sway; He will make his kingdom glorious, He will reign through endless day. What though none on earth assist him, God requires not help from man; What though all the world resist him, God will realise his plan.

Nations, now from God estranged, Then shall see a glorious light; Night to day shall then be changed, Heaven shall triumph in the sight. See the ancient idols falling! Worship'd once, but now abhorr'd; Men on Zion's King are calling, Zion's King, by all ador'd.

Then shall Israel, long dispersed, Mourning seek the Lord their God; Look on him whom once they pierced, Own and kiss the chast'ning rod; Then all Israel shall be saved,

War and tumult then shall cease! While the greater Son of David, Rules a conquer'd world in peace. Mighty King, thine arm revealing, Now thy glorious cause maintain; Bring the nations help and healing, Make them subject to thy reign. Angels in their lofty station,

Praise thy name, thou only wise,
O let earth with emulation,
Join the triumph of the skies.

HYMN CXXII.

MY soul with sacred joy survey,
The glories of the latter day;

Its dawn already seems begun,
Sure earnest of the rising sun.

The friends of truth assembled stand,
(A chosen, consecrated band ;)

The standard of the cross display,

[blocks in formation]

"Behold the way!

Behold the way to Zion's hill,

[ocr errors]

Where Israel's God delights to dwell;
He fixes there his lofty throne,

And calls the sacred place his own.

Behold the way! ye heralds cry,
Spare not, but lift your voices high:
Convey the sound from shore to shore,
And bid the captive sigh no more.

Swift on the wings of heav'nly zeal
They fly, nor seem their toils to feel;
But faithful to their master's will,
Their sacred embassy fulfil.

The North" gives up;" the South no more
"Keeps back" her consecrated store;
From East to West the message runs,
And either India yields her sons.

Auspicious dawn! thy rising ray
With joy I view, and hail the day:
Thou, sun, arise supremely bright,
And fill the world with purest light!

HYMN CXXIII.

HEAD of the church, enthron'd on high,
Yet present with thy flock below;
Thou dost our ev'ry want supply,
And ev'ry gift and grace bestow.
Hence, patriarchs, priests, and prophets rose,
To Judah's favor'd land confin'd;
Till thou didst in our flesh disclose,
The light of life for all mankind.
Then came thy Spirit's promis'd hour,
And, lo! glad heralds bore the news,
Of dying love, and rising pow'r,

To save the Gentiles with the Jews.
We distant followers in their train, [place;
Would spread the sound from place to
And see, with holy joy again,

Thy servants crowd thy throne of grace.
O! may thy Spirit downward bend,
And warm each heart with love divine;
Send whom thou wilt, thy gospel send,
And call the heathen nations thine.

HYMN CXXIV.

The same.

JESUS, immortal King, go on,
The glorious day will soon be won,
Thine enemies prepare to flee,

And leave a conquer'd world to thee.
