Crown this ordinance of thine
With a solemn blessing;
Let our feast be all divine,
Each thyself possessing.

Cause that bleeding sacrifice,
Once for sinners given,
To appear before our eyes,
Earnest of our heaven.

We partake the bread and wine,
Seals of our profession;
Of the inward grace the sign,
Symbols of thy passion.

We commemorate thy death,
While we are receiving,
Feeding in our hearts by faith,
With unfeign'd thanksgiving.

HYMN CXXXI.

The same.

MY God, and is thy table spread,
And does thy cup with love o'erflow;
Thither be all thy children led,

And let them all thy goodness know.

Hail, sacred feast! which Jesus makes, Rich banquet of his flesh and blood; Thrice happy he, who here partakes, That sacred stream, that heav'nly food.

O let thy table honor'd be,

And furnish'd well with joyful guests; And may each soul salvation see, That here its sacred pledges taste. Drawn by thy quick'ning grace, O Lord, In thronging numbers let them come, And gather from their Father's board, The bread that lives beyond the tomb. Nor let thy spreading glory rest,

Till through the world thy truth has run; Till with this bread all men be blest, Who see the light or feel the sun.

HYMN CXXXII.

The same.

COME to the feast, for Christ invites
And promises to feed;

'Tis here his closest love unites,

The members to their head.

"Tis here he nourishes his own,
With living bread from heav'n;
Or makes himself to mourners known,
And shows their sins forgiv❜n.

Still in his constituted ways,
He bids us ask the pow'r,

The pard'ning or the hallowing grace,
And wait th' appointed hour.

Who seek redemption through his love,
His love shall them redeem;
He came self emptied from above,
That we might live through him.
Expect we then the quick'ning word,
Who at his altars bow;
But if it be thy pleasure, Lord,
O let us find thee now.

HYMN CXXXIII.

The same.

SALVATION! O the joyful sound!
What pleasure to our ears!

A sov'reign balm for ev'ry wound,
A cordial for our fears.

Salvation! let the echo fly

The spacious earth around; While all the armies of the sky, Conspire to raise the sound. Salvation! O thou bleeding Lamb! To thee the praise belongs; Salvation shall inspire our hearts, And dwell upon our tongues.

HYMN CXXXIV.

The same.

BRETHREN, come, our Saviour bids us,
Bids us to a feast of love;

Bless the Lord, whose bounty feeds us,
With provision from above:

Ye, for whom his life was giv'n,
Come, and eat the bread of heav'n.
Let us think of him who bought us,
'Tis the Saviour's own command;
When we wander'd, Jesus sought us,
Now he leads us by the hand:
Now he gives us hope, and says,
We shall sing his endless praise.
O how much his people owe him,
For the love that he has shewn!
Well may we surrender to him,
All that once we call'd our own:
Lord, we give ourselves to thee,
Thou our guide, our master be.

HYMN CXXXV.

The same.

MEETING in the Saviour's name, "Breaking bread" by his command; To the world, we thus proclaim,

On what ground we hope to stand: When the Lord shall come with clouds, Join'd by heav'n's exulting crowds. From the cross, our hope we draw, 'Tis the sinner's blest resource; Jesus magnified the law,

Jesus bore its awful curse;

What a joyful truth is this!
O how full of hope it is!
Jesus died and then arose,

Yes, he rose, he lives, he reigns; Jesus vanquish'd all his foes,

Jesus led them all in chains : His the triumph, and the crown; His the glory and renown!

HYMN CXXXVI.

The Incarnation of Christ.

WHAT good news the angels bring!
What glad tidings of our King!
Christ the Lord is born to day,
Christ who takes our sins away:
Him shall all his people see,
And rejoice eternally.

Lift your hearts and voices higb,
With Hosannas fill the sky;
Glory be to God above,
God is infinite in love:
Angels join with us in praise,
Help to sing redeeming grace.
Jesus is the lovely name,
This the angel doth proclaim;
He shall all his people save;
They in him remission have :
They shall all be born again,
And with him in glory reign.
