CHAP. 225.-An act to pension Thomas Gorham.

Pension.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary Thomas Gorham. of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll the name of Thomas Gorham, of Wallaceburgh, Hempstead County, Arkansas, who served as a private in Captain 3. F. Swaggerty's Company, Second Regiment Georgia Mounted Volunteers, Florida and Cherokee wars of eighteen hundred and thirty-seven and eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, and pay him a pension at the rate of twenty dollars per month.

CHAP. 226.-An act to pension William A. Todd

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary
of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place
on the pension roll the name of William A. Todd, who served as a
private in Captain John D. Sill's company of Colonel William
Wodd's battalion, Georgia Creek War Volunteers, eighteen hundred
and thirty-six, and pay him the same pension as is allowed by law
for service in the war of eighteen hundred and twelve.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary Sarah Thomasson of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension-roll the name of Sarah Thomasson, of Prescott, Arkansas, widow of Beverly D. Thomasson, deceased, who served as third lieutenant, Captain Green's company, Wood's battalion, Georgia Militia, Creek war, eighteen hundred and thirty-six, and as first lieutenant Captain Storey's company, First Georgia Infantry, Cherokee war, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, and pay her a pension at the rate of seventeen dollars per month.

CHAP. 229.-An act granting an increase of pension to Willis Sturgeon, of Hart County, Kentucky.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to Willis Sturgeon (a soldier of the Mexican war and a private soldier of Company K, Twenty-sixth Regiment Kentucky Volunteers, in the late civil war),,a pension of twenty-five dollars per month, in lieu of the pension of eight dollars per month he is now receiving, subject to the pension laws of the United States.

CHAP. 230.-An act granting increase of pension to Robert Cullen.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary Pension increased. of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place the name of Robert Cullen, late captain Company I, Seventy-fourth Ohio Infantry, on the pension rolls, and pay him a pension at the rate of fifty dollars per month, in lieu of the sum now paid him. CHAP. 231.—An act to increase the pension of Daniel King.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary Pension increased. of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place upon the pension-roll, subject to the terms and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Daniel King, a private of Company E Third Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, of the war with Mexico, and pay to him the sum of twenty dollars per month, in lieu of the pension now paid to him.

CHAP. 232.-An act increasing the pension of Mrs. Rochie Brien Buell.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior of the United States be, and he is hereby, directed to place on the pension-roll of the United States the name of Mrs. Rochi Brien Buell, widow of General George P. Buell, late of the Unite States Army, at the rate of fifty dollars per month, according to the rules and regulations governing pensions, which shall be in lieu o the pension which the said Mrs. Rochie Brien Buell is now drawing as such widow.

CHAP. 233.—An act to place on the pension roll the name of Mrs. Caroline E. Duryee.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he hereby is, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the

pension laws, the name of Mrs. Caroline E. Duryee, widow of Abraham Duryee, late a brigadier-general, retired, of the United States Army, and pay her a pension at the rate of fifty dollars per month from and after the passage of this act.

CHAP. 234.—Án act restoring Bethia White, late Bethia Pool, to the pension roll. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary Bethia White. of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to restore to and place upon the pension-rolls the name of Bethia White, late Bethia Pool, widow of Nathaniel Pool, Company C, One hundred and fourth Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, under pension claim numbered twenty-nine thousand two hundred and six, subject to the limitations and provisions of the pension laws. CHAP. 235.-An act authorizing an increase of invalid pension to William H.
Morse, of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary William H. Morse. of the Interior be, and he hereby is, directed to cause the name of William H. Morse, formerly employed in the Ordnance Department at the Washington navy-yard, and whose name is now borne on the invalid pension-rolls under pension certificate (naval) numbered fiftyfour hundred and twenty-nine, to be entered upon said pension-rolls for such increase of pension as may be recommended according to law for wounds and disabilities received by said William H. Morse while in the naval service of the United States of America, but not duly enlisted therein, on or about the twenty-fifth day of May, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, and subsequently thereto, and that said William H. Morse received such increase of pension as he would have received had he been duly enlisted in the naval service of the United States when he received said wounds and disabilities. general of volunteers, at the rate of one hundred dollars per month.

CHAP. 246.-An act for the relief of John Hollins McBlair.

Whereas John Hollins McBlair, late a first lieutenant in the Fif- Preamble.
teenth United States Infantry, was, by order of the President dated
October sixth, eighteen hundred and sixty-three, wholly retired from
the service, and was afterwards, on April eighth, eighteen hundred
and sixty-four, ordered by the President to be retired for disability
incident to the service and to be placed upon the retired list, and has
ever since been borne upon such retired list, up to November twelfth,
eighteen hundred and eighty-four, and has been regularly paid as
such retired officer up to April thirtieth, eighteen hundred and
eighty-four, and the Court of Claims has recently decided that the
order of the President of April eighth, eighteen hundred and sixty-
four, attempting to revoke the order of October sixth, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-three, wholly retiring him, and to restore him to the
retired list, was not operative: Therefore,
