Nuremb. Ant. Koberger, 1483 This Bible is extremely curious, on account of its numerous grotesque wood-cuts. Dr. Dibdin says, "The greater part of a rainy morning might be satisfactorily devoted to the entertainment afforded by the cuts of this Bible." Among others equally remarkable, is one in which the Pope is introduced as one of the principal of the FALLEN ANGELS! 2 vols. small folio, 167. 16s. Strasb. 1485 This is a most beautiful copy of an edition scarcely, or not at all, known in this country. It is in the original white vellum stamped binding, with clasps; the leaves are rough throughout, and the condition is truly fine. The woodcuts are extremely numerous; and, although grotesque in many instances, they are very superior in spirit, variety, and expression. The architectural details, subjects of natural history, costume, &c. are given with great fidelity. Many are uncoloured; and the others appear to be done with much care and effect. DUDESCH; the Bible in Saxon, or Low German. Folio, a very fine copy, calf, 251. Halberstad, 1522 An edition of the utmost rarity, and quite unknown to bibliographers, not being even mentioned by either Panzer, De Bure, Le Long, or Adler. It is printed in a remarkably bold type, and contains many wood-cuts used by Koberger in his German Bible, with others of a larger size: these have the date of 1520, and are very superior-the artist's monogram C. G. This version is of considerable intrinsic value, as it helps to elucidate many passages in the earlier editions of Luther's Bible. Teutsch, Dr. Martin Luther, with the Psalms set to music, A very curious and fine specimen of binding, well preserved, in dark stamped hog-skin, wooden boards, and finely chased brass ornaments, including a whole-length figure of Moses with the Tables of the Law, and Christ as the Salvator Mundi. The corners, clasps, and bosses, are ornamented with figures of the four Evangelists, David, &c. &c.
