These volumes consist of the Gemara, or Talmud of Babylon, together with the Mishna, or the text upon which the Talmud is a commentary. The work was published in the sixth century by a society of Rabbins resident in Babylon. It has ever been esteemed by the Jews as forming a complete digest of their divinity, laws, &c., and as such is indispensable to those who make Rabbinical literature their study.
