This is the last Popish confession published by authority in Scotland prior to the Reformation. Archbishop Hamilton was a member of the privy Council of Mary Queen of Scots, and baptised her son James VI. He was taken prisoner at the Castle of Dumbarton, and hanged at Stirling in 1570.
