Descriptionis Ptolemaicae augmentum, sive Occidentis notitia, brevi commentario illustrata et hac secunda editione magna sui parte aucta. Duaci, Apud Franc. Fabri, 1603. old calf. fol. Tall copy. 16.-The title bears the notice 2a edition, and indeed the text, as well as the maps, are exactly the same as in the preceding edition of 1598. It is no doubt the same book, as published in 1598, only with the address of Fr. Fabri of Douay and with the year 1603. The only difference, I have remarked, is, that it has not the leaf after the preface: In C. Wytfliet... Epigramma, in place of which a blank leaf is inserted.

This pamphlet is rather an historical account of the circumstances attending the raging of the yellow fever, so fatal in Philadelphia, in 1793, and in which Mr. Carey has presented his fellow citizens with a collection of facts and observations well calculated for the satisfaction of their anxious curiosity." (Facsimiles [of the titles] of old Dutch voyages, in the collection of Fred. Muller at Amst. Lithographed at the Hague by E. Spanier.)

These facsimiles have been made with the utmost care. They are printed in 50 copies only on old Dutch paper, made before 1650, and will be sold only together, no separate leaves being to be had. The originals are all very rare, many of them turned up only once or twice in Holland, during the last 30 years, and no Dutch public library possesses all these editions; some of them are wanting in all. 14.Dedicated to Jam. Lenox, Esq., of New-York, who furnished many valuable contributions to it from his rich library.

A very useful and creditable book containing the exact bibliographical description, with valuable historical notes. of my rare and curious collection of old Dutch voyages, formed with great expense and trouble during 17 years, and the first bibliography of old Dutch voyages. The original text of each voyage is conferred with the translations given by De Bry, amply showing the immense superiority of these originals in text, plates and maps, to the poor editions of De Bry, whose greatest merit consists in forming one single collection; the translations given by Hulsius are by far superior. The references: Tiele No... to many books in the present catalogue refer to this bibliography.

Book V and VI are exclusively devoted to the Indian navigations. The author accompanied, as Rear-Admiral, the celebrated expedition under Hendrik Brouwer against the Spaniards of Chili.
