EXHIBIT AT THE STATE FAIR.

The Department for the first time was represented by an exhibit at the annual State Fair held in Syracuse, N. Y., September 12-17, 1910. The year previous, when the State Institutions building was opened, two or three of the institutions had sent exhibits, but they were in no way connected with this Department. This year it was considered advisable to bring the charitable institutions together in an exhibit in charge of one person.

Accordingly, in July as soon as the request for an exhibit had been received, the following circular letter was sent to all the institutions reporting to this Department, with the exception of Bath, Napanoch, Oxford, Ray Brook, Thiells, and West Haver

You will then receive information relative to the allotment of space, directions as to packing and shipping, etc.

Miss Child, the Department's confidential inspector, will have charge of the exhibit.

Yours respectfully,

(Signed) D. MCCARTHY,

Fiscal Supervisor.

The institutions at Batavia, Bedford, Hudson, Iroquois, Rome, Sonyea and Syracuse signified their intention of sending exhibits, and these with the exception of Rome, were finally represented when the fair opened.

On the part of the institutions it was a very creditable exhibit and reflected the interest and care which had been taken in its preparation. A space 54 feet by 14 feet, and an adjacent corner, 16 feet by 12 feet were filled. It was well placed, so that it at
