A Prayer for Wednesday Morning.

O MOST gracious God! who art the Author of all the good Things that I enjoy; in Thee I live, and move, and have my Being; and to thy good Providence I afcribe it, that I am now in Health and Safety; that I have enjoyed the comfortable Refreshments of the Night paft, and that none of those Evils which I have juftly deferved, have come nigh me, or my Dwelling; for thefe, O Lord, and for all thy other Mercies, I defire to adore and blefs thy glorious Name, humbly befeeching Thee to accept this my Morning Sacri fice of Praife and Thanksgiving, in and through the Merits and Mediation of my dear Redeemer.

For his Sake, O Lord, I humbly beseech Thee to pardon all my Sins, and grant that a due Sense of thy Mercies may be fo deeply impreffed upon my Mind that I may love Thee above all Things, and manifeft the Sincerity of that Love, by a conftant and habitual Care to do what is pleafing to thy Sight.

O Lord! there is nothing that I defire fo much, as to be of the Number of thy faith

ful

ful Servants; to this End vouchfafe me the Affiftance of thy good Spirit, to enable me to withstand the Temptations of this wicked World, and with an undaunted Courage and Refolution, to bear up under all the Trials: and Difficulties which I fhall meet with in my Chriftian Warfare.

Grant, O Lord that I may never have any Fellowship with the unfruitful Works: of Darkness, nor grieve thy bleffed Spirit by any impure and finful Defires; but as I have given up myself to the Service and Obedience of my great Lord and Mafter Jefus Chrift; fo teach me to walk in his Laws, to conform myfelf to his Precepts, and to endeavour, as much as in me lies, to imitate his Example.

Let my Converfation be always fuch as becometh the Gofpel; and grant that I may daily endeavour to mortify my corrupt Inclinations; to cleanse myself from all Filthinefs of Flesh and Spirit, and to bring every inordinate Defire to the Obedience of thy Will.

Give me a Heart truly honeft and upright, and fo ftedfaft and immoveable in the Ways of Truth and Juftice, that no worldly Intereft or Advantage, how promifing or E 4 great

great foever, may be able to fhake my tegrity.

In

In the Ufe of honeft and lawful Means, give me Grace to depend upon thy Provi dence, and to reft contented under all the Difpenfations of thy infinite Wisdom and Goodnefs. And though Thou fhouldft fee fit to deprive me of any, or even all the Comforts of this Life; yet, O gracious Father, leave me not deftitute of thofe Things that accompany Salvation; nor deny me thy Favour, which is better than Life itfelf: Whatever Thou art pleafed to deprive me of, yet take not from me, I befeech Thee, the Comforts of thy Holy Spirit; but in all the Troubles and Difappointments of this World, in all the Calamities and Trials I fhall meet with here, be Thou my only Refuge and my Support, my Stay and my Truft, my Saviour and mighty Deliverer. Stand by me in all Trials, fuccour me in every Temptation, fupport me in Difcou ragements, and advise me in all difficult Cafes: But efpecially, O Lord, I most importunately befeech Thee, that when the Time of my Diffolution draws nigh, and all Things here begin to fail me, Thou wouldst then vouchfafe to ftrengthen and fupport me, and at last receive me into thy blessed

Kingdom,

Kingdom, through the Merits, and for the Sake of my eternal Advocate and Mediator, Jefus Chrift our Lord.

Be Thou pleafed of thy great Goodness, O Lord, to continue to me thy Favour and Protection. Direct and guide me, fanctify and preferve me. Let thy watchful Provi dence be my Guard and Defence. Keep me in thy Fear all the Day long, and grant that I may take nothing in Hand but what is agreeable to thy bleffed Will. Into thy Hands I commend my Soul and Body, and all that are related to me, humbly befeeching Thee to keep us from all Evil; to lead us into all Good; and to carry us fafely through the Dangers and Temptations of this wicked World, to that Place of everlafting Reft and Peace, which Thou haft. prepared for thy faithful Servants, through the Merits of thy beloved Son Jefus Chrift our Lord; in whofe Words I recommend the Wants of all Mankind, together with my own.

O MOST gracious God and merciful Father! I befeech thee, for the Sake of thy dear Son Jefus Chrift, to pardon and forgive all the Sins and Tranfgreffions, which I have at any Time committed against thy divine Majesty.

Vouchfafe me the continual Prefence and Direction, the Affiftance and Comforts of thy Holy Spirit, whereby I may be difpofed and enabled to do thy Will with Delight and Chearfulness, and with Patience and Contentednefs to fubmit to it in all Things.

Endue me, O Lord, with a true Fear and Love of Thee, and with a prudent Zeal for
