these his inestimable benefits?—I will offer and present myself, my soul and body, to be a reasonable, holy, and lively sacrifice unto him; I will believe in him, trust in him, love and honour him with all my heart and mind; I will endeavour to spend the rest of my days wholly in his service, and to his glory to order all my conversation as becometh his gospel; to crucify the flesh, and keep myself unspotted from the world; to abstain from all appearance of evil, and to do all such good works as he has commanded me to perform. And may his grace always rest upon me: may his Holy Spirit abide continually with me, "to direct, sanctify, and govern both my heart and mind in the ways of his laws, and the works of his commandments, that, through his most mighty protection, both here and ever, I may be preserved both in body and soul to everlasting life."

BEFORE GOING TO THE ALTAR.

MOST GRACIOUS GOD, our heavenly Father, who hast given thine only Son to die for our sins, and to rise again for our justification, that we might become the sons of God and heirs of eternal life, look upon me, I beseech Thee, and grant, that having this hope, I may serve Thee always in pureness and truth, and daily endeavour to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life. It is from thy mercy only that I can do unto Thee any true and laudable service: I pray, therefore, that the Holy Spirit may govern all my thoughts during the sacred duty I am now about to perform. Help me to approach these holy mysteries with fear and reverence, deep humility, and fervent devotion, with a heart full of faith in Thee, and the most grateful sense of thy infinite goodness in sending thy Son upon earth,

and of his inexpressible love to mankind in undertaking and accomplishing the work of our redemption. I would dedicate myself entirely to thy service, and I beseech Thee to accept my contrition for all the faults and errors I have in any way committed; that, though of myself I am an unworthy guest, I may by thy infinite mercy be received at thy Table; and being assisted by thy grace in serving Thee sincerely and acceptably all the days of this mortal life, I may in thy due time attain thy everlasting kingdom, through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, my blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where the rust and moth doth corrupt, and where thieves break

Whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do unto them; for this is the law and the prophets. St. Matt. vi., 12.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. St. Matt. vii., 21.

Zaccheus stood forth, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have done any wrong to any man, I restore him fourfold. St. Luke, xix., 8.

Who goeth a warfare at any time at his own cost? Who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 1 Cor. ix., 7.

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we shall

reap your worldly things? 1 Cor. ix.,

11.

Do ye not know, that they who minister about holy things live of the sacrifice, and they who wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord also ordained, that they who preach the Gospel should live of the Gospel. 1 Cor. ix., 13, 14.

He that soweth little shall reap little, and he that soweth plenteously shall reap plenteously. Let every man do according as he is disposed in his heart, not grudgingly, or of necessity, for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Cor. ix., 6, 7.

Let him that is taught in the word minister unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he reap. Gal. vi., 6, 7.

While we have time let us do good unto all men, and specially to them who are of the household of faith. Gal. vi., 10.

Godliness is great riches, if a man be content with that he hath; for we brought
