42° 40'S., long. 30° 30' W., the observed altitude of the Sun's l. 1. near the meridian North of the observer was 64° 59' 27", index error + 30", height of the eye 24 feet, time by watch 27d. 2h. 25m. 21s., which was fast on apparent time at ship lh. 59m. 47s., and the difference of longitude since the error was taken, to the westward, was 17 miles. Find the true latitude.

53° 30' N., long. 20° 30' E., the observed alt. of the Sun's 1. 1. near the meridian, South of the observer, was 27° 15' 20", index error 1' 14", height of the eye 17 feet, time by watch 27d. 22h. 14m. 6s., which was slow on apparent time at ship 47m. 51s., but since the error was determined the ship has made 15 miles d.long. to the E. Find the true latitude.
