our abode on earth is, and so to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

May we spend the remainder of our days upon earth in the faithful discharge of our duty, and live in such a manner as we shall wish to have done when we come to die. Whatsoever our hand findeth to do may we do it with all our might, since we know that there is no work nor device in the grave whither we are all going. Give us grace so to follow the good example of those who have departed this life in thy faith and fear, that at length we may, with them, be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom. May we glorify Thee on earth, and finish the work which thou hast given us to do; that when we shall leave this world we may depart in peace, and sleep in Jesus; and that, finally, in the great day of the Lord, being found acceptable in thy sight, we may be admitted into thine everlasting kingdom and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

PRAYER FOR THE SICK.

O Lord, our Heavenly Father, we are exhorted by thy blessed Apostle, through prayer and supplication to make our requests known unto Thee. We humbly lay before Thee our trouble; for thou art our refuge, and our portion in the land of the living. Hear us, O God, in behalf of thy servant, whom thou hast visited with sickness. Cause us to hear thy loving kindness in the morning, for in Thee do we trust; and enter not into judgment with thy servants, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. Bring our souls out of this distress, for thy mercy's sake, O Lord, and grant that we may manifest our gratitude to thee, not with our lips only, but in our lives, having our conversation in Heaven; whence we look for the Lord Jesus, who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working of that mighty power, whereby he is enabled even to subdue all things unto himself; and through him, to thy divine Majesty, be everlasting praise ascribed. Amen.

SECOND PRAYER FOR A SICK PERSON.

Almighty and Everlasting God, Maker of all things, who dost correct those whom thou dost love, and chastise every one whom thou dost receive; we beseech thee, in behalf of thy servant labouring under bodily indisposition. Grant, O Lord, that he may take this thy visitation patiently. Give him comfort and sure confidence in Thee. Support him under all the trials of this present sickness, that he may be fitted for whatever Thou in thy wise and righteous Providence hast appointed for him. Sanctify, we beseech Thee, this thy fatherly visitation to him, that if it be thy good pleasure to restore to him his former health, he may lead the residue of his life here in thy fear, and to thy glory; and that whenever Thou shalt see fit to remove him hence, he may be prepared to dwell with Thee in life everlasting, according to thy gracious promise, by Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom be ascribed to thy Divine Majesty, everlasting praises. Amen.

PRAYER FOR A SICK CHILD.

Almighty and most Merciful God, the great Giver and Preserver of life, in a faithful dependence on thy goodness, wisdom, and power, we lift up our hearts unto Thee, humbly praying, if it seem good in thy sight, that Thou wilt graciously spare the life of this child, and prolong it to years of understanding and usefulness. Under thy direction and blessing, may all those means be pursued which will prove effectual to recover his health, and to restore him to his family and friends. But if Thou in thine unerring wisdom shalt determine otherwise concerning him, enable all connected with him meekly to submit to thy heavenly will, seeing that Thou only knowest what is best for us, in this our earthly pilgrimage. O Lord, who knowest our frame, incline thy merciful ear to our prayer, and fulfil these our requests, which we present unto Thee in humility and faith, as the disciples of thy beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom to thy Divine Majesty be everlasting praise ascribed. Amen.
