upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

Friday-Fourth Week after Epiphany.
HEBREWS V. I—9.

EVERY
VERY High Priest taken from among
men is ordained for men in things per-
taining to God, that he may offer both gifts
and sacrifices for sins: who can have compas-
sion on the ignorant, and on them that are
out of the way; for that he himself also is
compassed with infirmity. And by reason
hereof he ought, as for the people, so also
for himself, to offer for sins. And no man
taketh this honour unto himself, but he that
is called of God, as was Aaron. So also
Christ glorified not Himself to be made an
High Priest, but He that said unto Him,
Thou art My Son, to-day have I begotten
Thee. As He saith also in another place,
Thou art a Priest for ever, after the order of
Melchisedec. Who in the days of His flesh,
when He had offered up prayers and supplica-
tions, with strong crying and tears unto Him
that was able to save Him from death, and was
heard in that He feared; though He were a
Son, yet learned He obedience by the things
which He suffered; and being made perfect,
He became the Author of eternal salvation
unto all them that obey Him.

Saturday-Fourth Week after Epiphany.

ISAIAH L. 7-11.

HE LORD GOD will help me; therefore

:

I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me ? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me. Behold, the LORD GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up. Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of His servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand, ye shall lie down in sorrow.

Fifth Sunday after Epiphany.

PSALM LXIII. I—9.

God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee: my soul thirsteth for Thee, my flesh longeth for Thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; to see Thy power and Thy glory, so as I have seen Thee in the

sanctuary. Because Thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee. Thus will I bless Thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in Thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise Thee with joyful lips; when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches. Because Thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after Thee: Thy right hand upholdeth me. But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

Monday-Fifth Week after Epiphany.
ISAIAH XLII. I—7.

BE

EHOLD My servant, whom I uphold; Mine elect, in whom My soul delighteth: I have put My Spirit upon Him; He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench: He shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till He have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for His law. Thus saith God the LORD, He that created the heavens, and stretched them out: He that spread forth

the earth, and that which cometh out of it; He that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein; I the LORD have called Thee in righteousness, and will hold Thine hand, and will keep Thee, and give Thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prisonhouse.

Tuesday-Fifth Week after Epiphany.

THE

2 TIMOTHY II. 19—26.

HE foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts; but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto

all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Wednesday-Fifth Week after Epiphany. ISAIAH LI. 9-15.

AWAKE, awake, put on strength, O arm

of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art Thou not It that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? Art Thou not It which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over? Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. I, even I, am He that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; and forgettest the LORD thy Maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day, because of the fury of
