MINUTES OF THE GENERAL ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK. The General Association of New York convened for its Twenty-third Annual Session, with the First Congregational Church in Albany, Tuesday, October 14th, 1856, at 3 o'clock, P. M. The following persons were enrolled as MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION. The body was organized by the choice of REV. P. FIELD, Moderator; REV. S. B. GOODENOW, Scribe; REV. S. S. HUGHSON, Assistant Scribe. After prayer by the Moderator, he proceeded to name the following COMMITTEES. On Arrangements-Rev. Ray Palmer, A. Camp and R. Osburn. On Overtures--Rev. H. H. Waite, J. P. Thompson and R. B. Bull. On Finance-Rev. S. Johnson, E. Hale and D. Dyer. On Statistics-Rev. J. H. Dill, C. B. Ray and J. H. Henry. On Delegates-Rev. S. S. Hughson, L. A. Sawyer and E. Hale. On Narrative-Rev. S. B. Goodenow, E. W. Allen and R. Osburn. BUSINESS. Voted, That the next annual meeting be held with the church in Poughkeepsie. Rev. Ray Palmer, Treasurer, read his report, which was adopted. He then declined a re-election. (See Appendix C.). Rev. H. N. Dunning was then chosen Register and Treasurer, and Dea. Elisha L. Burton, Auditor. REPORTS. The reports of committees being called for, The Committee on Liturgies, appointed two years ago, reported that they had taken no action, and were discharged. The Committee on Change of Time for the Annual Meeting, appointed one year ago, reported, recommending the second Tuesday of October. Action deferred till to-morrow. Rev. J. P. Thompson, from the Committee on Correspondence with other Bodies, appointed one year ago, stated that the committee had prepared no report, but that he would himself submit a series of resolutions. Assigned for 11 o'clock to-morrow. The Committee of Arrangements reported in part, as follows: Morning sessions to commence at 8 o'clock, with Devotional Services till 9. Recess from 1 till 3 o'clock. Associational Sermon this evening. Recess to 7 oclock, P. M. PUBLIC SERVICES. TUESDAY EVENING. At the hour appointed, the association listened to a sermon from Rev. J. P. Thompson, the appointed substitute for Rev. H. W. Beecher. Text: Acts i, 6-9. Subject, "The Gospel before Civilization." Rev. H. N. Dunning assisted in the services. Adjourned with prayer. BUSINESS. WEDNESDAY MORNING. After devotional exercises at 9 o'clock, the minutes of yesterday were read and approved. The Committee of Arrangements reported, that agents of Benevolent Associations occupy the hour from 4 to 5 this afternoon, and that the reports from District Associations, and from Corresponding Bodies be attended to this evening. |
