Rev. Ray Palmer and S. B. Goodenow were appointed the committee for publishing the minutes.

Resolved, (by a two-third vote,) That the constitution be so altered that the annual meeting hereafter, shall be held on the Tuesday preceding the last Sunday of September.

Upon nomination of the Ontario Association, Rev. Jonathan Edwards was appointed preacher for the next year, and Rev. J. H. Dill his substitute. (See Appendix A.)

The Committee on Overtures reported an Overture from Ontario Association concerning the more perfect collection and publication of statistics, whereupon it was

Voted, That Rev. J. H. Dill, L. A. Sawyer and J. P. Thompson, be a special committee to consult and report upon that subject.

On motion of Rev. Ray Palmer, it was

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to report a plan for the general establishment of local conferences of the churches throughout the state.

Voted, That Rev. R. Palmer, H. H. Waite and J. Crane be that committee.

The Committee on Delegates reported a list of Delegates to Corresponding Bodies, which after amendment was adopted. (See Appendix B.)

RESOLUTIONS.

On motion of Rev. L. A. Sawyer, it was

Resolved, That this association have learned with much satisfaction that the conference of the officers of the American Congregational Union and the Congregational Library Association, held in New York, Sept. 30th, agreed unanimously to recommend to the Congregational Churches throughout the land, a simultaneous collection in aid of building houses of worship for feeble churches of our faith and order.

Resolved, That this association earnestly recommends to the congregational ministers of this state, to present this object to their respective churches on the 21st of December next, with a view to a general liberal collection.

Resolved, That a committee of five be appointed to represent to the Executive Committee appointed by the conference, the wants of feeble churches in the state of New York, and to

receive and disburse whatever amount from the collection may be apportioned to this state.

Voted, That the following gentlemen compose that committee: Wm. G. West, Esq., and H. A. Richardson, Esq., of New York city, E. Darrow, Esq., of Rochester, H. S. McCall, Esq., of Albany, Dea. Gilbert Tompkins, of Madison, Dea. A. Hazeltine, of Jamestown, and Rev. W. H. Corning, of Oswego.

On motion of Rev. J. P. Thompson, the following was adopted: Whereas, The senior secretary of the American Tract Society (Rev. W. A. Hallock, D. D.), in a published card, and the Executive Committee of the society in their last annual report, have assured the public of their readiness to issue suitable Christian tracts on Slavery as well as upon other evils and sins in society;

And whereas, The American Tract Society at its annual meeting in May last, sanctioned this declaration of its officers by adopting their report, therefore

Resolved, That these acts and declarations so far realize the views and wishes of this body, expressed in its report of last year upon "The Relation of the Benevolent Societies to Slavery," that this association cordially renew its recommendation of the American Tract Society to the confidence and the liberal support of the churches.

Resolved, That the association look with great hopefulness for the early publication of a tract on the moral and religious aspects of Slavery that shall everywhere commend itself to the moral sense of evangelical Christians, and shall be productive of corresponding good.

CORRESPONDENCE.

At 11 o'clock, the order of the day being taken up, Rev. J. P. Thompson proposed and advocated a series of resolutions, on the subject of correspondence with other demominations, and particularly with the Presbyterian General Assembly, N. S. (See Appendix E.)

A communication was read from Rev. R. S. Storrs, Jr., giving his report as delegate to the General Assembly, N. S.

Rev. Wm. C. Wisner, delegate from the N. S. General Assembly was heard at length upon the subject.

At 1 o'clock the association took a recess.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

At 3 o'clock the association was called to order, and the delegate from the assembly concluded his remarks.

Rev. L. A. Sawyer proposed and advocated a second series of resolutions, as a substitute for those before the association. (See Appendix E.)

After general discussion, the subject was postponed, for further consideration to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock.

BENEVOLENT SOCIETIES.

Rev. Mr. Streeter was excused for the rest of the session.
Agents of Benevolent Societies were then heard.

Rev. Mr. Gulliver, Secretary of the Systematic Benevolent Society, presented that cause.

Rev. Mr. Jocelyn, Secretary of the American Missionary Association, presented that cause.

Rev. D. Mead, spoke in behalf of the New Englander.

REPORTS OF DELEGATES.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

At 7 o'clock, the association came to order.

After singing and prayer, the reports of delegates to corresponding bodies were called for.

Rev. Ray Palmer reported from Connecticut, Rev. L. A. Sawyer from Ohio, and Rev. D. Dyer (unofficially) from Canada. Rev. H. N. Dunning excused his failure to visit New Hampshire.

Rev. Silas C. Brown, delegate to Massachusetts, Rev. Geo. B. Bowley, delegate to Illinois, Rev. E. Colton, delegate to Canada, and Rev. R. L. Storrs, Jr., to the General Assembly, N. S., severally reported by letter.

The delegates to New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa, failed to report.

The reports from the several district associations being called for

Reports were presented from the Oneida Association, Black

River Consociation, and Essex Consociation. Reports suspended till to-morrow morning.

ADDRESSES FROM ABROAD.

The delegates present from corresponding bodies were next heard, as follows: Rev. Wm. C. Wisner, from the General Assembly, N. S.; Rev. J. C. Hart, from Ohio; Rev. Samuel Day, from Vermont; Rev. E. N. Hidden, from New Hampshire; Rev. C. S. Sherman, from Connecticut; Rev. Lorenzo D. Clark, from Massachusetts.

The Committee of Arrangements reported, that the Lord's Supper be administered to-morrow afternoon.

After prayer, adjourned till morning.

ASSOCIATION REPORTS.

THURSDAY MORNING.

After devotional exercises, the unfinished business of the last evening was resumed.

Reports were presented from the St. Lawrence Association, the Consociation of Western New York, the Long Island Consociation, the Association of New York and Brooklyn, the Ontario Association, the Albany Association, and the Puritan Association of Allegany and Wyoming.

The Susquehanna Association failed to report.

Rev. S. Wolcott, delegate from Rhode Island, was heard in representation of that body.

BUSINESS.

Rev. J. H. Dill, from the Special Committee appointed for the Improvement of Statistics, reported a plan, which was adopted. (See end of Statistics.)

Rev. J. H. Dill was chosen Statistical Secretary of this association, as substitute for a Committee on Statistics in accordance with the plan now adopted. On motion of Rev. S. B. Goodenow, it was

Voted, That the minutes hereafter shall contain a column for the reporting of members" absent."

On motion of Rev. D. Dyer, it was

Voted, That the minutes hereafter shall contain a column for reporting the time when the several churches were "organized." Rev. S. Johnson, from the Committee on Finance, reported their assessment, which was referred back to the committee.

Rev. Ray Palmer, from the Committee on Church Conferences, reported progress, and asked leave for the committee to insert in the minutes, a draft for the organization of such bodies. It was so voted. (See Appendix F.)

CORRESPONDENCE. ·

The resolutions on correspondence were again taken up and read.

Rev. L. A. Sawyer, again read his substitute, and proceeded to discuss the subject.

Rev. S. B. Goodenow proposed to amend by striking out the resolution on correspondence in general, and inserting a substitute. (See Appendix E.)

The subject was discussed by Messrs. Thompson, Wisner, Wolcott, Sawyer, Goodenow, Field, Palmer, Dyer, Ray, Dill, and others.

At 1 o'clock the association took a recess.

LORD'S SUPPER.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

At 3 o'clock, according to appointment, the sacramental sermon was preached by Rev. S. Wolcott, of Providence, R. I., and the Lord's Supper was then administered, after which the association resumed its business.

RESOLUTIONS.

The following resolutions were introduced and adopted:

American Bible Society.

Resolved, That we cordially approve of the purpose of the American Bible Society to supply our whole land with Bibles at the earliest practicable day, and that we commend the object to the attention and co-operation of our churches.
