Ye voices that arose

After the evening's close,

And whispered to my restless heart repose!

No violence can harm the meek,

L'Envoi.

There is no wound Christ cannot heal!

The Golden Legend-4.

APRIL.

When the warm sun, that brings
Seed-time and harvest, has returned again,
'Tis sweet to visit the still wood, where springs
The first flower of the plain.

I love the season well,

When forest glades are teeming with bright forms,
Nor dark, and many-folded clouds, foretell
The coming on of storms,

From the earth's loosened mould

The sapling draws its sustenance, and thrives; Though stricken to the heart with Winter's cold, The drooping tree revives.

Sweet April !-many a thought

Is wedded unto thee, as hearts are wed;

Nor shall they fail, till, to its autumn brought,
Life's golden fruit is shed.

An April day.

Silently one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven, Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the

angels.

Evangeline-Part 1, sec. 3.

April 2.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining,
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;

Thy fate is the common fate of all,

Into each life some rain must fall,

Some days must be dark and dreary.

April 3.

The Rainy Day.

For my heart was hot and restless,

And my life was full of care,

And the burden laid upon me

Seemed greater than I could bear.
But now it has fallen from me,

It is buried in the sea,

And only the sorrow of others
Throws its shadow over me.

The Bridge.
