SPECIAL COMMITTEE OF THE ASSEMBLY APPOINTED TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSES OF THE STRIKE OF THE SURFACE RAILROADS IN THE CITY OF BROOKLYN.

To the Assembly of the State of New York:

On the 7th day of February the Assembly adopted the following resolution, relative to the state of the public peace in the city of Brooklyn as incident to the strike of the employes of the surface railroads in that city:

"On motion of Mr. Friday, as amended by the Committee on Ways and Means: Whereas, the city of Brooklyn is now in a state of siege and under martial law, arising from the disturbances incident to the great trolly strike; and, whereas, the First and Second Brigades of the National Guard of the State have been summoned to perform active duty to protect the lives and property of the residents of that city; and, whereas, as the rail road companies refuse to accede to the demands of their employes, and the men are firm in their determination to hold out for what they claim are but just and reasonable demands and fair compensation for service rendered; and, whereas, the lives of the citizens of Brooklyn have been and are being imperiled in consequence, property has been destroyed and the city put to untold
