WE may look upon the passages of Holy Scripture, which our Church has selected for the different Gospels during the year, as very choice portions of God's Word. They have therefore a special claim upon us, and are worthy of our closest attention. It is supposed that these portions were chiefly selected by St. Jerome, more than a thousand years ago. And care has evidently been taken, in most cases, to suit the Collect, Epistle, and Gospel to the particular day on which they are read.
