their troubles; above all, grant them the consolations of which they have need, dispose them to patience and resignation, and make their afflictions promote the salvation of their souls.

Finally, O our God and Father, regard with Thy favour this worshipping assembly. Accept our worship, notwithstanding its imperfections; and grant that henceforth, putting all our trust in Thy well-beloved Son, enlightened by His teaching, guided by His example, and sanctified by His Spirit, we may walk in newness of life, and so prepare for that blessed life which Thou hast promised to Thy children in heaven.

Hear us, O merciful Father, in these our supplications, for the sake of Thy dear Son Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end.

Amen.

Then a Psalm or Hymn is sung; and, if convenient, the Alms may be collected. The Minister shall close the service by pronouncing this, or another, of the Benedictions:

The Benediction.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all.

Amen.

Prayer of Invocation.

LORD our God, we lift up our eyes unto the hills from whence cometh our help. Thou only art the Fountain of life and peace, and in Thy presence is fulness of joy. Father in heaven, from whom cometh down every good and perfect gift, grant us Thy blessing, and incline Thine ear unto us, as we come before Thee in the solemn service of Thy house. Merciful Saviour, who sittest at the right hand of the Father, and makest intercession for us, fulfil now Thy promise: Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. O Holy Ghost, the Comforter, help our infirmities, and enable us to worship in the beauty of holiness; through Christ our Lord.

The Confession.

O God, who hast taught us in Thy holy Word that if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us; but that if we confess our sins, Thou art faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness; receive, we beseech Thee, our humble confessions, through Jesus Christ.

Almighty and most merciful God, our heavenly Father, we cast ourselves down before Thee, under a deep sense of our unworthiness and guilt. We have grievously sinned against Thee in thought, in word, and in deed; we have come short of Thy glory; we have broken Thy commandments, and turned aside every one of us from the way of life, and in us there is no soundness nor health.

Yet now, O most merciful Father, hear us when we call upon Thee with penitent hearts, and for the sake of Thy Son Jesus Christ have mercy upon us. Pardon our sins, and grant us Thy peace. Take away our guilt. Purify us by the inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit from all inward uncleanness, and make us able and willing to serve Thee in newness of life, to the glory of Thy holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For Pardon and Peace.

We bless Thee, O God, for the comforting assurance of Thy grace, promised in the Gospel, to all who repent and believe: As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that he turn from his way and live. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Grant, therefore, that as many here present as truly repent of their sins, and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ with full purpose of new obedience, may receive now with perfect faith the declaration made by the authority and in the name of Christ, that their sins are forgiven in heaven, according to His promise in the Gospel, through the perfect merit of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Supplications.

O God, who hast taught us in Thy holy Word to be careful for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, to make known our requests unto Thee, give ear unto our prayer, and attend to the voice of our supplication.

O Thou Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, we beseech Thee, according to the riches of Thy glory, to strengthen us with might by Thy Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; so that, being rooted and grounded in love, we may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge.

God of all power and glory, who hast not appointed us unto wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, perfect and fulfil in us, we beseech Thee, the work of Thy redeeming mercy. Sanctify us in body, soul, and spirit, and guide us evermore in the way of peace. Help us to overcome the world. Beat down Satan under our feet. Give us courage to confess Christ always, and patience to endure in His service to the end; that, having finished our course with joy, we may rest in hope, and finally attain to the resurrection of the just; through the infinite merits of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Supplication.

Give ear, O Lord, unto our prayer. Keep us now and always in Thy faith and fear; and so cleanse our conscience, we beseech Thee, by
