COMMISSION ON ELECTRIC LIGHTING

FOR THE CITY OF NEW YORK.

APRIL 25, 1906.

HON. GEORGE B. MCCLELLAN, Mayor.

Chairman, Board of Estimate and Apportionment,

New York City.

Sir: The accompanying Report E gives the cost of construction and operation of a City electric plant, to supply all the City lighting in the Borough of Richmond by electricity, to the entire exclusion of gas, kerosene or other illuminants for streets, parks, public buildings and other public places.

The Borough of Richmond must be considered entirely apart from the general lighting system of the other four boroughs, since it is not practicable to connect the system of Richmond with the systems of the other boroughs. The amount of lighting in this borough is very small, but is increasing at a rapid rate; therefore provision is made for a power-house with a capacity for a load fifty percent greater than is now required; the real estate which has been acquired will permit the increase of this power-house to a capacity four times that needed for the present load.

The total estimated cost for the entire system of this borough to supply 2000 are lamps and 20 000 incandescent equivalents, including land, building for power-house of a capacity of 3 000
