CLXXXIX. Difmiffion. P. M.

OME fweet favor, of thy favor, Shed abroad in ev'ry heart; Heav'nward as to thee we go, Leaving guilt and fear below: Bleffing, praifing, without ceafing, Bid us LORD depart.

CXC. The dying Believer's Soliloquy. 75. PART I.

D

EATHLESS principle arife,
Soar, thou nature of the fkies;
Pearl of price, by JESUS bought,
To his glorious likeness wrought.
Go to fhine before his throne,
Deck his mediatorial crown;

U

Go, his triumphs to adorn,
Made for GOD, to GoD return.
Lo! he beckons from on high
Fearless, to his prefence fly;
Thine, the merit of his blood,
Thine, the righteoufnefs of God.
Angels, joyful to attend,

Hov'ring round thy pillow bend,
Wait to catch the fignal giv'n,
And escort thee quick to heav'n.
Is thy earthly house diftreft?
Willing to retain its gueft?
'Tis not thou, but it müft die,
Fly, celeftial tenant, fly.

Burst thy fhackles, drop thy clay,
Sweetly breathe thyfelf away;

Singing to thy crown remove,
Swift of wing, and fir'd with love.

[blocks in formation]

HUDDER not to pafs the ftream,
Venture all thy care on him,
Him! whofe dying love and pow'r,
Still'd its toffing, hufh'd its roar.

Safe in the expanded wave,
Gentle as the fummer's eve;
Not one object of his care,
Ever fuffer'd fhipwreck there.
See the haven full in view:
Love divine fhall bear thee thro';
Truft to that propitious gale,
Weigh thy anchor, fpread thy fail.

Saints in glory perfect made,
Wait thy paffage thro' the fhade:
Ardent for thy coming o'er,
See, they throng thy blissful fhore.
Mount, their transports to improve,
Join the longing choir above;
Swiftly to their wish be giv'n,
Kindle higher joy in heav'n.
Such the profpects that arise,
To the dying chriftian's eyes;
Such the glorious vista, faith,
Open thro' the fhades of death.

CXCII. A Contemplation on Heavenly Blifs. P.M.
Rev. vii. 9-17. PART I.

SAW, and lo! a countless throng,

Th' elect of ev'ry nation, name, and tongue,

Affembled round the everlasting throne;
With robes of white endu'd
(The righteousness of GoD);
And each a palm fuftain'd'
In his victorious hand;

When thus the bright melodious choir begun : "Salvation to thy name,

"Eternal God, and co-eternal Lamb,`
"In pow'r, in glory, and in effence, One !"
So fung the faints.--Th' angelic train,
Second the anthem with a loud AMEN.
(These in the outer circle ftood,
The faints were nearest GoD);

And proftrate fall, with glory overpow'r'd,
And hide their faces with their wings,
And thus addrefs the King of kings:
