ANOTHER six days' work is done, Another Lord's day has begun; GREAT God, this sacred day of thine Demands the soul's collected powers; Gladly we now to thee resign These solemn, consecrated hours: O may our souls adoring own The grace that calls us to thy throne. 2 All-seeing God! thy piercing eye Can every secret thought explore; May worldly cares our bosoms fly, And, where thou art, intrude no more: O may thy grace our spirits move, And fix our minds on things above! 3 Thy Spirit's powerful aid impart, The grace that calls us to thy throne. HYMN 35. IN loud, exalted strains, II. 4. The King of glory praise; And with thy favour crown This people as thy own: Beneath this roof vouchsafe to show 3 Now let thine ear attend Our supplicating cries; Now let thy Gospel's joyful sound Till all who humbly seek thy face, FAR from my thoughts, vain world, begone; From flesh and sense I would be free, 2 My heart grows warm with holy fire, And kindles with a pure desire To see thy grace, to taste thy love, And feel thine influence from above. 3 When I can say that God is mine, When I can see thy glories shine, I'll tread the world beneath my feet, And all that men call rich and great. 4 Send comfort down from thy right hand, To cheer me in this barren land; And in thy temple let me know The joys that from thy presence flow. MY opening eyes with rapture see The dawn of thy returning day; Nor would receive another guest; 3 O bid this trifling world retire, And drive each carnal thought away; Nor let me feel one vain desire, One sinful thought, through all the day. 4 Then, to thy courts when I repair, My soul shall rise on joyful wing, The wonders of thy love declare, And join the strains which angels sing. HYMN 38. TO thy temple I repair; III. 1. Lord, I love to worship there; While thy glorious praise is sung, Touch my lips, unloose my tongue. 2 While the prayers of saints ascend, 4 While thy ministers proclaim A LMIGHTY Father, bless the word, Which, through thy grace, we now have heard; O may the precious seed take root, Spring up, and bear abundant fruit. 2 We praise thee for the means of grace, L ORD, dismiss us with thy blessing, Travelling through this wilderness. May the fruits of thy salvation With us evermore be found. HARK! the glad sound, the Saviour comes, The Saviour promised long : Let every heart prepare a throne, And every voice a song. 2 On him the Spirit, largely poured, Wisdom and might, and zeal and love, 3 He comes, the prisoners to release, The gates of brass before him burst, 4 He comes, from thickest films of vice And on the eyes oppress'd with night, 5 He comes, the broken heart to bind, And with the treasures of his grace, 6 Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace, HYMN 42.
