Vice-President of the United States:

SIR: Referring to my answer of the 22d instant to the resolution of the Senate of the 20th instant giving the estimated sum of money necessary to restore the Pensacola navy-yard to its former condition, I have the honor to state that, in addition to the sum given therein ($590,192), it is estimated that the sum of $86,709 will be necessary to rebuild the marine barracks, which were destroyed during the war.

The estimated sum, therefore, to restore the yard and marine barracks to their former condition is $676,901.
