My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? why art Thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the day-time, but Thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. (Ps. xxii. 1-3.)

IN the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John xvi. 33.)

AND not only so, but we glory in tribulations also knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope : and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Rom. v. 3-5.)

IN your patience possess ye your souls. (Luke xxi. 19.)

AND though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the. right hand, and when ye turn to the left. (Isa. xxx. 20, 21.)

WHY criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee. (Jer. xxx. 15.)

YET ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more. (Jud. x. 13.)

HIS confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. His remembrance shall perish from the earth. He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. (Job xviii. 14, 17, 18.)

THINE heart shall meditate terror. (Isa. xxxiii. 18.)

I ALSO will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. (Isa. lxvi. 4.)

IN all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them: in His love and in His pity He redeemed them: and He bare them, and carried them all the days of old. (Isa. lxiii. 9).

HE shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. (Isa. xl. 11.)

THOUGH I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. (Ps. xxiii. 4.)

I HAD fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. (Ps. xxvii. 13.)

IF,

when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps. (1 Pet. ii. 20, 21.)

THEY are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. (Ezek. xxxi. 14.)

ALL the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us. (Amos ix. 10.)

THEREFORE the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself: neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself; neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself. THE LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness. (2 Sam. iii. 39.)

THEY shall utterly perish in their own corruption. (2 Pet. ii. 12.)

THE Lord will not cast off for ever: but though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men. (Lam. iii. 31—33.)

FOR a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. (Isa. liv. 7,8.)

FOR we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Eph. vi. 12.)

RETURN, O Lord, how long? Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. (Ps. xc. 13, 15,)

MANY are the afflictions of the righteous; but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. (Ps. xxxiv. 19.)

Ir is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes. (Ps. cxix. 71.)
