Ps. cxix. 176: I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments. ISA. liii. 6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. JER. 1. 6, 17: My people hath been lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place. Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured; and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones. EZEK. xxxiv. 5, 6, 8: And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. As I live, saith the LORD God, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock. MAT. xv. 24: I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Acтs, iii. 26: Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. do. xiii. 46: Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. ROM. XV. 8: Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers. 1 PET. ii. 25: for ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

I ACTS, viii. 18, 20: And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands, the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. do. xx. 33, 34: I have coveted no man's silver or gold, or apparel. Yea, yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities. 1 COR. ix. 11-14: If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power.-Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things, live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. do. xv. 10: I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 1 PET. v. 2: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind.

m 1 SAM. ix. 7: Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God. MARK, vi. 8: [Jesus] commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse. LUKE, ix. 3: Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats a piece. do. x. 4: Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes. do. xxii. 35: And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. MARK, Vi. 8: The words under ver. 9.
