LITANIES.

I. LITANY FOR ADVENT.

GOD the Father of Heaven, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O God the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O Holy, Blessed, and Glorious Trinity, three Persons and one God, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O Thou Who didst take upon Thee our Flesh, and didst become subject to suffering and sorrow, Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst raise the daughter of Jairus from the bed of death, the widow's son from the bier, Lazarus from the tomb,

Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst bear our infirmities and heal our sicknesses,

Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst become obedient to death, even the death of the Cross,

Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst first breathe into man the breath of life, and hast appointed the hour of my death,

Have mercy upon me.

I, Thine unworthy servant, beseech Thee, hear

me.

That, dying unto sin here, I may live unto Thee in heaven,

Good Jesu, hear me.

That, abiding Thy faithful soldier and servant here, I may receive the crown hereafter,

Good Jesu, hear me.

That I may cheerfully submit to all the suffering of sickness and death, as the just penalty of my sin,

Good Jesu, hear me.

That Thou wilt be with me in the dark valley

of the shadow of death,

Good Jesu, hear me.

That Thou wouldst not suffer me in my last hour for any pains of death to fall from Thee,

Good Jesu, hear me. That Thou wouldst forgive me all my sins, and

L

strengthen my fainting soul with the Bread of Life,

Good Jesu, hear me.

That Thou wouldst enable me to close my eyes in Thy faith and fear, in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life,

Good Jesu, hear me.

Deliver me, O Lord, in my last hour, as Thou didst deliver Enoch and Elijah from the common doom. Amen.

As Thou didst deliver Noah from the flood. Amen.

As Thou didst deliver Job from his sufferings. Amen.

As Thou didst deliver Isaac from the uplifted knife. Amen.

As Thou didst deliver Lot from Sodom, Amen.

As Thou didst deliver the children of Israel from Pharaoh.

Amen.

As Thou didst deliver Daniel from the den of lions.

Amen.

As Thou didst deliver the three children from the burning fiery furnace. Amen.

As Thou hast ever delivered the souls of them that trust in Thee. Amen.

Deliver me, O God, on that tremendous day, when the heavens and the earth shall be moved, when Thou shalt come to judge the world by fire. Amen.

When the judgment shall be set, and the book be opened; when the dead, small and great, stand before Thee. Amen.

O Lamb of God, That takest away the sins of the world,

Have mercy upon me.

O Lamb of God, That takest away the sins of the world,

Have mercy upon me.

O Lamb of God, That takest away the sins of the world,

UR Father, etc.

Grant me Thy peace.

V. Blessed are the dead,
Ry. Which die in the Lord.

I

Hear me, O Lord, and remember now the. hour when Thou didst commend Thy Blessed Spirit into the hands of Thy Heavenly Father, when, with a torn body and broken heart, Thou didst show forth Thy mercy and unspeakable loving-kindness towards us miserable sinners. beseech Thee, O Thou Brightness of the Father's glory, so to assist me by that Thy precious Death, that, dying unto this world, I may live unto Thee, and that at the last hour of my life Thou mayest receive me into the arms of Thy mercy, Who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

V. Lord, hear my prayer,

Ry. And let my cry come unto Thee.

May the Lord of His mercy grant unto me, with all His faithful servants, eternal rest and peace. Amen.

II. CHRISTMAS-TIDE AND EPIPHANY.

GOD the Father, Creator of the world,
Have mercy upon me.

O God the Son, Redeemer of mankind,

Have mercy upon me.

C God the Holy Ghost, Sanctifier of the elect,

Have mercy upon me.

O Holy Trinity, three Persons and one God,
Have mercy upon me.

O Thou Who, being God, didst take upon Thee the form of a servant, and wast conceived by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary,

I give Thee thanks and praise.

O Thou Who, being the Brightness of the Father's glory and the express Image of His Person, didst not abhor the Virgin's womb,

I give Thee thanks and praise.

O Thou Who art God and Man in one Person, God of the substance of Thy Father, begotten before all worlds, Man of the substance of Thy Mother, born in the world,

I give Thee thanks and praise.
