hour, although I have so often and grievously sinned against Thee; and now that Thou hast brought me one day nearer Home, I thank Thee for Thy many mercies during its course. O my God, I cannot thank Thee as I ought; therefore I plead before Thee the Spotless life of Thy dear Son as my one Thank-offering. Together with the praises and thanks which angels and saints have given Thee, accept my humble thanks, and teach me to yield my whole body, soul, and spirit, a perpetual Burnt Offering to Thy Divine Majesty. Amen.

Here you may add prayers for the graces you need (Part III.), the Memorial for the day, and the proper Collect from the Prayer Book, and of Intercession (Part IV.)

HE day, O Lord, has now ended, what

blessings hast Thou given me during its

course! what ingratitude have I shewn Thee; O preserve in me that which is Thine; wash away in the Blood of Thy dear Son that which is mine. Amen.

Here rising from your knees prepare for bed.-See directions at the end of the forms for ejaculatory prayer.

HYMN.

And now the day is past and gone,
Holy God I bow to Thee;
Again as shades of night roll on,
To Thy sheltering side I flee.

For ills that I this day have done,
Let my bitter sorrow plead ;
And keep me from the wicked one,
When myself I cannot heed.

Ravening he prowls Thy fold around,
In his watchful circuitings;
Father this night may I be found,
'Neath the shadow of Thy wings.

O when shall that, Thy day, have come,
Day ne'er sinking in the west;
That country and that holy home,
Where no foe shall break our rest.

Where Thy Saints preserved beneath,
The shadow of Thy outstretched wing,
For evermore Thy joy shall share,
For evermore Thy mercy sing.

Now to the Father, and the Son,

And Holy Ghost, our prayer we raise ; To One in Three, and Three in One, Sing we in exile songs of praise.

Third Form of Evening Prayer.

(If necessary, use the form given on page 55.)

IV. Make an act of contrition for faults committed against a loving Lord and Saviour; pray earnestly for pardon; make resolutions, by His help, to shun sins for the future; think of Magdalene, of the lost sheep, and of the Prodigal Son.

V. Make acts of faith, hope, and love.

VI. Commemorate the season as in the morning.

VII. Make acts of intercession as in the morning.

VIII. Pray for protection during the night, and for the guardianship of the holy Angels; pray for all those whom you especially desire to commend to God, that the day now past may have brought you and them a day nearer Heaven ; and pray also that you may at last lie in the grave as peacefully as now in your bed.

IX. Conclude (as in the morning) with the Lord's Prayer, the Apostles' Creed, and end as in either of the preceding forms.

Here, rising from your knees, prepare for bed.

As you

unclothe yourself, reflect that so must your soul at last, unclothed of its vesture of flesh, stand before God; pray that it may be with joy, and not with grief.

Let your last words be—

Into Thy hands I commend my spirit, for Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, Thou God of truth.'
