not to give so little heed to the things that we have heard as to let them slip. May we not only hear the joyful sound of the gospel, but receive, and love, and obey it; and show that we do so by walking in the light of Thy countenance. O Thou great Head of the Church pardon, we humbly pray Thee, the sins which we have this day committed against Thy Divine Majesty; especially those which have been mixed up with our acts of solemn worship. O Saviour, pity and help Thy poor sinful servants who too often sing Thy praises with feigned lips, and wandering hearts. Let thy love be more abundantly shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost given unto us. Jesus, Master, have mercy upon us! If another Sabbath is given us, may our hearts be more warm, and our prayers more earnest.

And now, O Lord, may that which we have learnt to-day fit us better for Thy service through the week. May we be

stronger to resist temptation, and more ready for every good word and work, through Thy blessing upon the word preached. May each Sabbath leave us in some measure at least advanced on our way heavenward.

We ask, O God, on this the evening of Thine own day, that a special blessing may rest upon our dear relatives and friends. Fulfil graciously the petitions. which they have offered, and accept their praises. And hear us when we pray Thee to watch over them, to guide and defend them. Graft in all their hearts the love of Thy name. Lead them and us in the way of life everlasting.

Let Thy blessed peace now fill all our minds. Let a softening, sanctifying influence from the services of this Sabbath be upon us, and abide with us. And when earthly Sabbaths and earthly services are all done with, O take us, merciful Father, to the rest prepared for

Thy people, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day [or, day by day] our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord bless us, and keep us, and lift up His countenance upon us, and give us peace, now and evermore. Amen.

Monday Morning.

GOD, our Creator and Preserver, we have laid us down and slept, and have awaked and arisen again, for Thou hast sustained us. We humbly offer up to Thee as a family our praises and thanksgivings for all Thy goodness and mercy shown to us up to this day.

And now, O Lord our God, as we are entering upon the labours of the week, we seek Thy grace and guidance. We are ignorant, and need Thy teaching. Lord, show us the way in which we should walk, for we lift up our souls unto Thee. We are weak, and unable of ourselves to overcome temptation, and to fulfil our daily duties. Lord, make us strong in Thee. Be Thou our Helper;

and fulfil to us Thine own promise, that Thou wilt bruise Satan under our feet. Make us to know the deceitfulness of our own hearts, that we may not trust in ourselves, but, looking to Thee for succour, watch unto prayer.

Prosper us, O Lord our God, we humbly pray Thee, in everything which we attempt to do for Thy glory and the good of our fellow-creatures. Make us a blessing to those around us. Give us the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit. Make us gentle and patient, tenderhearted, and forbearing in our dealings with others.

Amidst all our earthly cares and labours may we be ever mindful of that great eternity to which every hour is bringing us nearer. O Lord, help us by Thy grace to improve our time and talents, and not to waste and misuse them. Of Thine infinite mercy Thou didst give Thy dear Son to die for us; O may we live as the redeemed of the Lord ought
