the Jews, deny me: surely thou wouldest not ask me.

For our Lord Jesus perceived the lurking fear in Pilate's breast, lest he should offend a Deity in the mortal man before him.

The Romans believed, in common with all other Heathen Nations; the occasional appearances of their Gods, in the form of men.

And this every where prevalent belief was founded upon the tradition received down from Adam, that God made man in his own image. And that a man, descended from Eve; "the seed of the woman," should redeem the penalty of eternal Death, by "bruising the serpent's head:" that is, by conquering Satan, "that great serpent, the Devil," her deceiver.

Hence arose among the Greeks the story of Cadmus, and the Dragon: and similar traces are yet found upon the coins, and medals; and in the Monumental, and Historical, records of all Nations.

Now a reference to Scripture has proved that our Saviour Jesus Christ always declared His Unity with the Father. And we find that the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, was with the Father, while our Lord Christ minis

tered here on Earth; because He alludes to His own Resurrection, and Ascension into Heaven; and again declares His power equal to the Father's, where He says: "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth, which proceedeth from the Father; He shall testify of Me: and ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning."

To proceed, as we all know, is to go forth: "I proceeded forth, and came, from God: neither came I of myself, but He sent me:" said our Lord Jesus Christ to the Pharisees; as recorded in the eighth Chapter of the Gospel by St. John. Therefore, being with the Father; the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Truth, coming, or proceeding, from the Father, was God and because He came both from the Father, and from the Son; He was, is, and ever will be, God, and Lord, in Trinity, and Unity, with the Father, and the Son.

Our Saviour, moreover, thus commanded His Apostles; Go ye, therefore, and teach all Nations; baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things

whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo! I am with you alway even unto the end of the World."

Having fulfilled all the Prophecies of the Old Testament relating to the Messiah, in His words and miracles; in His sufferings, and glorious Resurrection from the dead; our Lord again promised to send the Holy Comforter, who should remind His Apostles of all whatsoever He had told them.

And, accordingly, that promise was completed on the day of Pentecost; by the Holy Ghost personally descending upon them; and giving them the supernatural, and immediate, knowledge, and utterance, of all the languages then spoken among mankind.— For God, "who left not himself without a witness in every Nation;" had so ordered it in His good Providence, that strangers from all parts of the Roman Empire, which had subdued all the then known World; should be present at Jerusalem.

Upon this notorious, and never contradicted, Miracle: this public, and universal, acknowledgment of the Church of Jesus Christ by the Three Persons of the Godhead; will I fully rest the whole Truth of our holy

Religion. And, as I before said; if that Religion be confirmed by it, so also is the authority of our Priesthood for ever determined, and established.

The Holy Ghost appeared under the similitude of tongues of fire, to denote the power, light, and penetration of the Ministry, in which the Apostles of Jesus Christ were engaged. And as the promised Comforter had been sent by the Father, and the Son; so, by His coming, the Holy Trinity in Unity thus openly, and eternally, confirmed their mission unto all Nations.

Before that event, even at the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ; when the voice of God the Father proclaimed from heaven, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased:" the Holy Ghost had descended, like a Dove coming down from Heaven, and resting upon our Saviour.

Thus, in the emblem of Peace; of which great Covenant with sinful men, Noah's dove in the Ark was a Type, or Pre-figuration; thus did the Holy Ghost declare the Prince of Peace" For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder and His Name shall

be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."

We therefore find in the Holy Scriptures, my Christian brethren, the fundamental Doctrine of our Faith, the Holy Trinity in Unity, and the Unity in Trinity. That is to say: we find a perfect union of power, might, mercy, majesty, and every excellence of infinite wisdom, and goodness; and most especially in the great work of man's eternal Redemption: to exist between the Three Persons of the ever blessed Godhead.

We find that Jehovah, God the Father Almighty, was particularly worshipped by the children of Israel, His chosen people. We find in many parts of the Old Testament in the original Hebrew Language, Jehovah, the incommunicable Name of Almighty God, applied to the promised Messiah. Jehovah is too often in the English Bible merely translated the Lord, or God; instead of, what it ought to be, Jehovah. And in the New Testament Jesus Christ is fully proved to be the Messiah; his very Name signifies Jehovah the Saviour the Messiah; Jesus is Jehovah the Saviour, Christ the Messiah.
