GOLFF, M.E. ST. PETERSBURG: 1895 The absence of any copyright restrictions has enabled this to be done without the permission or co-operation of the Author, and on looking through the Russian work it is found that considerable liberties have been taken with the original text in the way of omissions and additions. While of course it is extremely gratifying to the Author to know that his work is so highly appreciated, it is much to be regretted that there is nothing either in the preface or elsewhere to indicate the omissions, or to distinguish between the work of the Author and that of the Russian compiler and for which the august Publisher cannot be held entirely free from blame. This of course does not refer to the three entirely new chapters at the end of the work, which are referred to as such in the preface. |
