THE ORDER HOW HOLY SCRIPTURE IS APPOINTED TO BE READ.

THE Old Testament is appointed for the First Lessons at Morning and Evening Prayer, so as the most part thereof may be read every year once, as in the Calendar is directed.

The New Testament is appointed for the Second Lessons at Morning and Evening Prayer, and may thus be read over orderly every year.

And to know what Lessons may be read on any day, look for the day of the month in the Calendar following, and there ye shall find the Chapters, or portions of Chapters, appointed for the Lessons both at Morning and Evening Prayer.

The Lessons Proper for Sundays and for certain Special Days will be found in the Table following.

And note, that upon Special occasions other Lessons may be substituted for those which are appointed.

Note also, that the Collect, Epistle, and Gospel, appointed for the Sunday, shall serve all the week after where it is not otherwise ordered.

THE ORDER HOW THE PSALTER MAY BE READ OR SUNG.

THE Psalter is arranged in three portions for each day throughout the month, so that the whole may be read through where this may be most convenient.

But note, that the Minister may at any Service select from the Psalms appointed for the day such as he may deem most appropriate for that Service.

And note also, that upon special occasions other Psalms may be substituted for those appointed in the Psalter: and that whensoever Proper Psalms or Lessons are appointed, then the Psalms and Lessons of ordinary course appointed in the Psalter and Calendar (if they be different) shall be omitted for that time.

And note further, that Psalms cxlv. to cl. shall always be read upon the last day of the month.

NOTE. That the Lessons appointed in the above Table for the Twentyseventh Sunday after Trinity shall always be read on the Sunday next before Advent.

If there be a Third Service on Sundays, the Second Lesson for that Service may be any Chapter from the four Gospels, or any Lesson appointed in the Calendar from the four Gospels, at the discretion of the Minister, except on those Sundays for which alternative Second Lessons are specially appointed in the above Table.
