LUKE XXIII. When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man 7 were a Galilean. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself 8 was also at Jerusalem at that time. And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad; for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. MATTHEW XXVII. 15 Now at that feast the 6 governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. 16 And they had then a no table prisoner, called Barab17 bas. Therefore, when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them; Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas? or Jesus, which is called Christ? 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.. 19 When he was set down on the judgment-seat, his wife sent unto him, saying; Have thou nothing to do with that just man; for have suffered many things this day in a dream because 20 of him. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude, that they should ask Barabbas, and 21 destroy Jesus. The gover MARK XV. Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. 7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the 8 insurrection. And the multitude crying aloud, began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. 9 But Pilate answered them, saying; Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy. 11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto 12 them. And Pilate answered, 10 and said again unto them; What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews? JOHN XVIII. 38 voice. Pilate saith unto him; What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them; I find in him no fault at all. LUKE XXIII. 9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he 10 answered him nothing. And the chief priests and scribes 11 stood, and vehemently accused him. And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. 12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together; for before they were at enmity between themselves. 13 LUKE XXIII. And Pilate, when he had 39 called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and 14 the people, said unto them Ye have brought this man JOHN XVIII. But ye have a custom that I should release unto you one at the passover; will ye therefore, that I release unto you the King of the unto me, as one that per- 40 Jews? Then cried they all verteth the people; and behold, I having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man, touching those things whereof ye ac15 cuse him. No, nor yet Herod; for I sent you to him, and lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him. 16 I will therefore chastise him, 17 and release him. For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast. 18 And they cried out all at once, saying; Away with this man, and release unto 16 us Barabbas; who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was 20 cast into prison. Pilate again, saying; Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. MATTHEW XXVII. MARK XV. 14 Crucify him. Then Pilate said unto them; Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out exceedingly; Crucify him. nor answered and said unto 13 And they cried out again; them; Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said; Ba22 rabbas. Pilate saith unto them; What shall I do then with Jesus, which is called Christ? They all said unto him; Let him be cruci23 fied. And the governor said; Why? what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying; Let him be crucified. 24 When Pilate saw that he 15 could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying; I am in- 16 nocent of the blood of this just person; see ye to it. 25 Then answered all the peo And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium; and they call together the And they ple, and said ; His blood 17 whole band. be on us, and on our child26 ren. Then released he Barabbas unto them; and clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his when he had scourged Je-18 head. And they began to sus, he delivered him to be 27 crucified. Then the 19 soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying; Hail, King of the Jews! 20 salute him; Hail, King of the Jews! And they smote him on the head with a reed. and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees, worshipped him. And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him. LUKE XXIII. therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them. 21 But they cried, saying; Crucify him, crucify him. 22 And he said unto them the third time; Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him; I will therefore chastise him, 23 and let him go. And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. JOHN XIX. And the voices of them, 19 Then Pilate therefore and of the chief priests, took Jesus, and scourged 24 prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as 25 they required.
