The hottest day was

July 18th, 1843, when the thermometer at 2 P. M. stood at 98 degrees. The coldest day was January 27th, 1844, when the thermometer at 7 A. M. stood at 20 degrees.

The thermometer hangs in a southern piazza, 15 feet from the ground.
