SYNOPSIS OF THE CONTENTS OF THE BRITISH MUSEUM. DEPARTMENT OF COINS AND MEDALS.

A Guide to the Principal Gold and Silver Coins of the Ancients.

From circ. B.C. 700 to A.D. I. With 70 Plates.

By BARCLAY V. HEAD, Assistant Keeper of Coins.

First Issue-With 7 Plates.

This work has been prepared as a guide to the Collection of electrotypes of ancient coins in the King's Library. These have been arranged in such a manner as to afford a synoptical view at once historical and geographical of the Gold and Silver Coinage of the ancient world, from the invention of the art of coining, about B.C. 700, down to the Christian era. The first edition having been quickly exhausted, Mr. Head has prepared a second edition, to be accompanied by 70 autotype plates, the first 7 of which appear in this issue, the plan adopted for publishing the remaining number of plates is somewhat novel: A series of ten consecutive issues are to appear at short intervals, each of which will contain the complete text of the whole, but an instalment only of the plates; thus each issue will contain, in addition to the text, a different set of 7 plates.
