EACH D CARTULARIUM SAXONICUM: A COLLECTION OF Charters Relating to Anglo-Saxon History. BY WALTER DE GRAY BIRCH, F.S.A., Of the Department of MSS., British Museum, Honorary Secretary of the British Archeological THE It is intended in the proposed work to arrange all the documents in a general series, and according to order of chronology, the text of each deed being preceded by a short précis, and collated with the oldest and best copies, either manuscript or printed. The variations will be placed in foot-notes, and at the foot of each deed will be given a summary of the principal sources from which the text and various readings are derived, so as to form a Bibliography of Saxon Diplomatics. From a careful calculation it has been considered that the “Cartularium” can be contained in about twenty-five parts, embracing between two and three thousand documents,-in many cases printed from the original and contemporary manuscripts,-in a series which, it is hoped, will form a standard of reference to all matters connected with the early diplomatic history of England, as written in the charters, from the fifth century to the termination of the Saxon dynasties on the advent of the Normans The work will be closed with copious Tables and Indexes. Parts I and II, each containing sixty-four pages crown 4to, printed in small pica type on good paper, are already published; Part III will be ready on 1st January 1884.
