HYMN.

PRAISE TO GOD.

BEGIN the high celestial strain,
My ravish'd foul, and fing

A folemn hymn of grateful Praise,
To Heaven's Almighty King.

Ye curling fountains, as you roll
Your filver waves along;
Whisper, to all your verdant fhores,
The fubject of my song.

Bear it, ye winds, on all your wings,

To diftant climes away,

And round the wide-extended world,
The lofty theme convey.

Take the glad burden of his name,
Ye clouds, as you arife,
Whether to deck the golden morn,
Or fhade the evening fkies.

Long let it tremble round the fpheres,
And echo through the sky;
Till angels, with immortal skill,

Improve the harmony.

While we with facred rapture fir'd,

The blefs'd Creator fing;

And chaunt our confecrated lays,

To Heaven's Eternal King.

To

HYMN.

PRAISE TO THE REDEEMER.

our Redeemer's glorious name,
Awake the facred fong!

O may his love (immortal flame!)
Tune every heart and tongue.

His love, what mortal thought can reach
What mortal tongue display?
Imagination's utmost stretch

In wonder dies away.

Let wonder ftill with love unite,
And gratitude and joy ;
Jefus be our fupreme delight,
His praise our best employ.

Jefus, who left his throne on high,
Left the bright realms of blifs,
And came to earth to bleed and die!
Was ever love like this?

Dear Lord! while we adoring pay
Our humble thanks to thee;
May every heart with rapture fay,
The Saviour dy'd for me!

O may the fweet, the blissful theme,
Fill every heart and tongue;

Till strangers love thy charming name,
And join the facred song.

HYMN.

THE GLORIOUS PRESENCE OF CHRIST IN HEAVEN.

For a fweet infpiring ray,

To animate our feeble strains,

From the bright realms of endless day,

The blifsful realms where Jefus reigns.

There, low before his glorious throne,
Adoring faints and angels fall;

And with delightful worship own

His fmile their bliss, their heav'n, their all.

Immortal glories crown his head,
While tuneful hallelujahs rife ;
And love, and joy, and triumph spread,
Through all th' affemblies of the skies.

He smiles, and feraphs tune their fongs,
To boundless rapture while they gaze;
Ten thousand thousand joyful tongues,
Refound his everlasting praise.

There all the fav'rites of the Lamb,
Shall join, at last, the heav'nly choir;

O may the joy-inspiring theme,

A wake our faith and warm defire.

Dear Saviour, let thy Spirit feal

Our interest in that blifsful place; Till death remove this mortal veil,

And we behold thy lovely face,

HYMN.

THE JOYS OF HEAVEN.

COME, Lord, and warm each languid heart,

Inspire each lifeless tongue;

And let the joys of heaven impart,
Their influence to our fong.

Then to the fhining feats of bliss,
The wings of Faith shall foar,
And all the charms of Paradife
Our raptur'd thoughts explore.
Pleasures, unfully'd flourish there,
Beyond the reach of time;
Not blooming Eden fmil'd fo fair,
In all her flowery prime.

Sorrow, and pain, and every care,
And difcord there fhall cease;
And perfect joy, and love fincere,
Adorn the realms of peace.

The foul from fin for ever free,

Shall mourn it's power no more;

But, cloth'd in spotless purity,

Redeeming love adore.

There on a throne, how dazzling bright,

Th' exalted Saviour shines ;

And beams ineffable delight,.

On all the heavenly minds!

There fhall the followers of the Lamb

Join in immortal songs;

And endless honours to his name
Employ their tuneful tongues.

Lord, tune our Hearts to praife and love,

Our feeble notes infpire;

Till, in thy blissful courts above,

We join th' angelic choir.

HYMN.

THE EXCELLENCY OF THE SCRIPTURES.

FATHER of Mercies, in thy Word,

What endless glory shines ?

For ever be thy name ador'd,
For these celeftial lines.

Here may the wretched fons of want
Exhauftlefs riches find;

Riches, above what earth can grant,
And lafting as the mind.

Here the fair tree of knowledge grows,

And yields a free repast, Sublimer fweets than Nature knows

Invite the longing taste.

Here, the Redeemer's welcome voice,
Spreads heavenly peace around;
And life, and everlasting joys,

Attend the blifsful found.

O may these heavenly pages be,
My ever dear delight;

And ftill new beauties may I fee,

And ftill increasing light.
