Major-General Joseph E. Johnston, the hero of several wars and commander

of the Confederate forces at the first battle of

Bull Run. Born February 3, 1807; died March 21, 1891.

Major-General John Bell Hood, who fought valorously at Gaines' Mill, Gettysburg, and on other battlefields. He succeeded Johnston,
