And the third, unto the seventh.

Whose wife of them is she?

Mar. In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise,
Whose wife shall she be of them?

Mat.Therefore in the resurrection

Whose wife shall she be of the seven?

Mat. For they all had her.

Mar. For the seven had her to wife.

Luke For seven had her to wife.

Mat. Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err,
Not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of
God.

Mar. And Jesus answering said unto him, Do ye not there-
lore err,

Because ye know not the scriptures, neither the
power of God?

34 Luke And Jesus answering said unto them, The children
of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 Luke But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain
that world, and the resurrection from the dead,

Neither marry, for are given in marriage.
Mar. For when they shall rise from the dead,

They neither marry, nor are given in marriage.
Mat. For in the resurrection

They neither marry, nor are given in marriage; Mat. But are as the angels of God in heaven. Mar. But are as the angels which are in heaven. 36 Luke Neither can they die any more, for they are equal unto the angels.

LukeAnd are the children of God, being the children of

the resurrection.

37 Luke Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush,

When he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, And the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Mar. And as touching the dead, that they rise; have ye
not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush

God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of
Abraham,

And the God of Isaac, and the God of Ja-
cob?

Mat. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have
ye not read,

That which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
I am the God of Abraham,

And the God of Isaac, and the God of Ja-
cob?

Mar. Ye therefore do err greatly.

Mat. And when the multitude heard this, they were asto-
nished at his doctrine.

Sect. 119. The great commandment in the law.
Mar. And one of the scribes came,

And having heard them reasoning together, and
perceiving that he had answered them well,

Asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

Mat... But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to siler.ce, they were gathered together.

Then one of them which was a lawyer,

Asked him a question, tempting him, and say

ing, Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Mar. And Jesus answered him, The first of all the com. mandments is,

Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord; And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,

And with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment.

Mat. Jesus said unto him,

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,

And with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

Mat. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mar. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love the neighbour as thyself.

Mar. There is none other commandment greater than these, Mat. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

39 Luke Then certain of the scribes answering, said, Master, thou hast well said.

Mar. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou ast said the truth:

Mar. For there is one God, and there is none other but he, And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices, And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.

Mar. And no man after that durst ask him any question. 40 Luke And after that they durst not ask him any question

They say unto him, The son of David. Mar. And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? (that is, I know your doctors tell you so, but how can they make their opinion consistent with David's words? Psal. cx.)

20 41 Luke And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?

42 Luke And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord saith unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

431

Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. Mar. For David himself said by the Holy Ghost,

The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. Mat. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Till I make thine enemies thy footstool? Mat. If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? Mar. David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son?

44 Luke David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his

son?

Mar. And the common people heard him gladly.
Mat. And no man was able to answer him a word, neither
durst any man (from that day forth) ask him any
more questions.

Sect. Izi. Woes denounced against the Pharisees.
Mat. Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disci-
ples. 2. Saying, The Scribes and Pharisees sit in
Moses' seat. All, therefore, whatsoever they bid you
observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after
their works; for they say, and do not. For they bind
heavy burdens, and grievous to be borne, and lay
them on men's shoulders, but they themselves will
not move them with one of their fingers. But all
their works they do for to be seen of men :
Mar. And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of
the scribes,

Which love to go in long clothing,

45 Luke Then in the audience of all the people, he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes,

46

Which desire to walk in long robes,

Mat. They make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Sect. 122. Two mites cast into the treasury.

Mar. And Jesus sat over against the treasury,

The rich men casting their gifts into the trea
sury.

2 Luke And he saw also a certain poor widow,
Casting in thither two mites.

Mar. And there came a certain poor widow,

And she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

Mar. And he called unto him his disciples,

Mar. And saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow

Hath cast more in than all they which have cast into the treasury.

3 Luke And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow

Hath cast in more than they all.

4 Luke For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God:

But she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

Mar. For all they did cast in of their abundance:

But she of her want did cast in all that she had,

Even all her living.

Sect. 123. Jesus foretels the destruction of Jerusalem. Mat. And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple; and his disciples

Came to him, for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

The days will come in the which there shall not
be left

Mar. And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings?

There shall not be left

Verily I say unto you, There shall not be left

here

One stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

The disciples came unto him privately, saying, Mar. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, over against the temple,

7Luke.

Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, asked him privately,

And they asked him, saying,

Luke Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be

When these things shall come to pass?

Mar. Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign

When all these things shall be fulfilled? Mat. Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign

Of thy coming, and of the end of the world? Mat. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name,

Saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Mar. And Jesus answering them, began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you. For many shall come in

Saying, I am Christ. See Matt. ver. 11.24.

Luke And the time draweth near; go ye not therefore after them.

9 Luke But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be

not terrified:

For these things must first come to pass, but the

end is not by and bye.

Mar. And when ye shall hear of wars, and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled:

For such things must needs be; but the end shall

not be yet.
