John The servant's name was Malchus. 11 John Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: Mat. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: Mat. For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? John The cup which my Father hath given me, shall Luke And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. Be ye come out as against a thief, with Mar. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Mat. I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, ' Luke When I was daily with you in the temple, Luke But this is your hour, and the power of dark ness. Mar. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled. Mat. But all this was done, that the Scriptures of Mat. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. Then 18 12/John Then the band, and the captain, and the officers 13 of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, And led him away to Annas first (for he was fatherin-law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.) Mar. And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him. And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. Mar. And they led Jesus away to the high priest: And with him were assembled all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes. Mat. And they that had laid hold on Jesus, led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, Where the scribes and the elders were assembled. Luke Then took they him, and led bim, and brought 14 John Now Caiaphas was he which gave counsel to Mat. But Peter followed him afar off, unto the high Mar. And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest. Luke And Peter followed afar off. 15 John And Simon Peter followed Jesus, 22 54 55 16 —John And so did another disciple. That disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. Luke And when they had kindled a fire in the midst Mar. Then they relate Peter's denials as follows: Peter's first denial. Mat. Now Peter sat without in the palace; and a damsel came unto him, Saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. Mar. And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest, And when she saw Peter warming himself, She looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. But 22 56 57 58 59 And earnestly looked upon him, and said, 18 17 John Then saith the damsel that kept the door un- Art not thou also one of this man's disci ples? + Luke But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, 18 John And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals (for it was cold), and they warmed themselves; and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself. See Luke, ver.55. -Peter's second denial. 26 John He saith, i am not. Mat. But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 27 Mar. But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. Luke And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. Mar. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. Mat. And when he was gone out into the porch, This fellow was also with Jesus of Mat. And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. Peter's third denial. 18 25 John And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself: They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. One of the servants of the high priest (being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off) saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crew. Mar. And he denied it again. LukeAnd after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. N. B. Luke And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter; Luke And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Mar. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. Mat. And Peter remembered the words of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny Mat. And he went out and wept bitterly. wept. Luke And Peter went ouf, and wept bitterly. Sect. 137. Jesus is tried by the council. LukeAnd as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and the chief priests, and the scribes, came together, and led him into their council. 18 10 John The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine.
