The author's intention was merely to prepare a small tract on the subject to which it relates, in Bengalee. Having, however, with a view of facilitating its progress, first written it in the former language, and also extended it beyond his original design, it was suggested to him by several esteemed friends, that it might be rendered more extensively useful by being first published in its present form. It owes its appearance, therefore, solely to the advice of those friends, for whose judgment he entertains the highest respect, and against which it would be arrogance in him to oppose his humble opinion.
