File No. 4975.

A complete and comprehensive statement of applicant's past experience tending to qualify him for the position will be required with each application on form furnished by the commission for that purpose.

JUNIOR STENOGRAPHERS CS 1

Civil service examination will be held at 9:00 a. m. Saturday, October 27th, at the Dkye School of Business, sixth floor Anisfield building, corner of Prospect ave. and E. 9th st.. for positions of junior stenographer CS 1 in the service of the city and board of education.

Initial salary-Men, $720.00 per annum.

The subjects of the examination will include the following:

Penmanship; spelling, arithmetic, typewriter copying; dictation and transcription; experience tending to qualifyy applicant to perform the duties of the position. verified to the satisfaction of the commission, will be considered and given weight as a subject of the examination.

Each applicant will be required to take dictation in shorthand and transcribe same on the typewriter. Dictation will be at the rate of 80 to 90 words per minute. Grading will be based on accuracy and neatness in transcription; some weight also being given to speed in transcription.

Applicants will be required to file with their applications complete and comprehensive statements of their past experience tending to qualify them for the position, which will be given due weight and allowance made therefor as a subject

of the examination.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Typewriters with BLANK KEYBOARDS will be furnished free of charge. All those desiring to use typewriters with VISIBLE keyboards must furnish their own, and have same delivered at the examination room the day previous to the examination.

SENIOR INSPECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS, IW-2, Division

OF STREETS

Civil service promotion examination will be held at a date to be later announced for the position of senior inspector of public works in the division of streets. Salary $1,200.00 per annum.

This examination is restricted to civil service employees holding positions of inspector of public works, IW-1, (formerly inspector of street openings), in the division of streets.

The subjects of the examination will include the following: (1) A written examination consisting of practical questions relating to the duties of the position; (2) An oral examination to be conducted by a committee of experts designated for that purpose; (3) Experience as an inspector, and seniority and record in the department verified to the satisfaction of the commission will be considered and given a weight as a subject of the examination.

Duties: The incumbent of this position assigns inspectors to the various jobs, and personally supervises their work; decides all questions as to street openings and refills, and issues orders for repaving work when openings are ready for same. CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION, Edward A. Kline. Secretary.

Whereas, the council has received a petition signed by the owners of all property abutting upon the alley lying about hundred and thirty (130) feet north of Union ave. S. E., and extending from E. 99th st. easterly to the easterly line of the Doering subdivision affected by the proposed vacation of a part of said of alley, and waiving notice passage of resolution declaring the intention of the council to vacate said part of said alley, and of the time and place at which objections can be heard before the board of revision of assessments and consenting to the vacation as prayed for in said petition; and

Whereas, this council is satisfied that there is good cause for vacatand ing the portion of said alley, that it will not be detrimental to the general interests and ought to be made, now, therefore, be it

Resolved, by the council of the city of Cleveland, state of Ohio, that it hereby declares its intention to vacate the portion of the alley lying about one hundred and thirty (130) feet north of Union ave. S. E., and extending from E. 99th st., easterly to the easterly line of the Doering subdivision.

Whereas, under the terms of

certain deed from the Cranwood Estates Company and the Standard Land Company to the city of Cleveland, dated on the 9th day of October, 1915, and as recorded in volume 1698, page 512, it is provided, that the city of Cleveland shall pay the cost of grading the land conveyed for park and boulevard purposes, and laying sidewalks thereon, and that said grading and other improvements shall be completed before and during the year of 1917.

Whereas, the Cranwood Estates Company desires to have a portion of said boulevard graded and cindered and some of the sidewalks laid at once; and are willing to advance money for the cost of said grading, cindering and sidewalks.

Whereas, the city of Cleveland has at present no funds appropriated for paying the cost of said grading, cindering and sidewalks; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that it is the sense of this council that the cost of grading, cindering and laying of sidewalks on a portion of East blvd. in the Cranwood Park allotment, shall be reimbursed to the said Cranwood Estates Company as soon as the city of Cleveland shall have provided the necessary funds to pay said cost; the said sum to be paid by the city of Cleveland not to exceed fifteen hundred ($1,500.00) dollars, and shall be determined in accordance with the bills rendered for the doing of said work, and approved by the director of public service. Whereas, it is necessary for the daily operation of the Department of public service that the following described property be acquired at once for the opening of a new street between W. 75th st. and W. 79th st. in the city of Cleveland in connection with the grade elimination along the line of The New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad Company, now, therefore

Be it resolved, that the council of the city of Cleveland hereby declares its intention to appropriate for the purpose of opening said new street between W. 75th st. and W. 79th st., in the city of Cleveland, the following described property: Parcel No. 1

The following parcel of land situated in the city of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga and state of Ohio, and known as sublot No. 13, in Herr & Gregerson's subdivision of original Brooklyn Township lot No. 29. recorded in volume 5, page 46 of maps, Cuyahoga county records, and W. being forty (40) feet front on 79th st., and one hundred and thirty (130) feet six (6) inches deep.
