adult reader of any intelligence, the following little work is designed expressly for the assistance of such Parents and Teachers as may not have access to more elaborate works, in order to their explanation and application.

It has been judged advisable to append a KEY, containing suitable answers to all the questions, at the end, rather than to insert them after the questions, because it will leave the mind both of the teacher and the child more unfettered, where it

may be deemed unnecessary, as in many cases it probably will; or it may furnish a hint to the teacher, where it is thought necessary to exercise the thinking powers of the child, by simply putting the question without allowing access to the answer. For similar reasons the texts have been given by reference, rather than at length, because it will materially

familiarize a child to the Scriptures to be accustomed to find the texts for himself.

It is confidently hoped that any teacher of the youthful mind in the ways of God, will find it a pleasant and an easy task to guide a child, after exercising its own powers, to suitable answers to the following questions generally; and it will be no unprofitable employment to trace, at the end of each Collect, its peculiarly Scriptural character, from the texts and references appended. Of course in such an exercise as is here recommended, other questions will arise to the mind of the teacher; and often a great variety of forms in which those recommended may be put, (and the same remark will apply to the answers) according to the age or capacity to the young catechumen. The writer trusts that, by the Divine blessing, even so humble a labour as is here presented will "not be in vain in the Lord."
