THE COMING OF ARTHUR

LEODOGRAN, the King of Cameliard,

Had one fair daughter, and nono other child ;

And she was fairest of all flesha on earth,

Guinevere, and in her his one delight.

For many a petty king ere Arthur came

Ruled in this isle, and ever waging war

Each upon other, wasted all the land;

And still from time to time the heathen hos':

Swarm'd overseas, and harried what was left.

And so there grew great tracts of wilderness,

Whorcin the beast was over moro and moro,

But mou was loss and loss, till Arthur camo.

For first Aurelius livod and fought and died,

And after him King Uthor fought and diod,

But either fail'd to mako the kingdom ono.

And nfter thicso King Arthur for å spnco,

And thro' tho puissanco of his Tablo Round,

Drow all their potty princedoms under him,

Their king and head, and made & renlm, and

reign'd.

And thus the land of Camoliard was wasto,

Thick with wot woods, and many a beast therein,

And nono or fow to scuro or chaso the bonst;

So that wild dog, and wolf and boar and bear

Camo night and day, and rooted in the fields,

And wallow'd in tho gardons of the king. :

And ovor and anon the wolf would stoal
