Thomas Clarkson, an ardent advocate of British Abolition details the road to the Act of the Abolition of the Slave Trade that was passed in 1807. The book orginally published in 1808, highlights his involvement and many others- like William Wilberforce, Lord Mansfield, Granville Sharp, Alexander Falconbridge- in one of the most important steps to ending slavery in the British Empire and the world. It chronicles many of his personal discoveries and first hand accounts of the horrors of the slave trade and slavery. Clarkson played a pivotal role in ending slavery in England and anyone who is interested in abolition- in US or UK- will find this book fascinating- hopefully as much as I did. ( )
